1855

Philadelphia actress Matilda Heron opened the 1855-56 season playing the title role of Camille. Heron's version was a new translation of the play based on La Dame aux Camelias, which she had seen in Paris. This was written in a more realistic style than previous versions and allowing Heron to show her full range of emotional style, and went over very well with audiences.
