Historic Photo Gallery: Beginnings to 1849
1810
In spring 1808, construction began on what would become Victor Pepin and Jean Breschard's
New Circus on Walnut Street. The building was 80 feet along Walnut Street and 100 feet
along Ninth Street. The interior was similar to European circuses, with a riding ring
in the center of the building surrounded by a raked seating area for the audience. This
