WST for Kids Announces Its 2017-2018 Season!

PHILADELPHIA, PA: Walnut Street Theatre is thrilled to announce its 2017-2018 WST for Kids Season. Celebrated for its commitment to encouraging parents (and grandparents) to read and learn with their kids, the season will feature four great musicals based on popular children’s books, along with a family-favorite holiday classic. These hour-long musicals deliver real-life lessons in a welcoming, kid-friendly environment that’s both creative and affordable. They’re written especially for kids in grades K-6 and their grown-up friends.

The 2017-2018 Walnut Street Theatre for Kids Season will feature four spectacular musicals including HONK! JR. (September 23 - October 8), StinkyKids: THE MUSICAL (February 3 – February 4), THE MUSICIAL ADVENTURES OF FLAT STANLEY JR. (March 31 – April 8) and IVY + BEAN: THE MUSICAL (June 2 – June 3). Philadelphia’s favorite holiday tradition, Charles Dickens’ A CHRISTMAS CAROL, also returns to the stage (November 25 – December 23).

The season opens with HONK! JR. This musical adaptation of The Ugly Duckling will have kids celebrating what makes them unique! Ugly is one odd looking baby duck that doesn’t quite fit in. In one wild adventure he soon learns to accept and love what makes him different. Performance times are Saturday, September 23 at 10:30am, 1:00pm and 3:30pm, and Sunday, October 8 at 11:00am.

Next up is StinkyKids: THE MUSICAL. When Britt wakes up with a massive wad of gum in her hair she knows she’s in trouble. She enlists the help of her friends to get her out of a very sticky situation. Mayhem ensues as these friends learn from their mistakes and discover the true value of friendship. Performance times are Saturday, February 3 at 10:30am, 1:00pm and 3:30pm, and Sunday, February 4 at 11:00 am.

Taking the stage next is THE MUSICIAL ADVENTURES OF FLAT STANLEY JR. Stanley Lambchop is an ordinary ten year old boy who wishes his life was a little more exciting. One morning Stanley wakes up to find he is very, very flat. He decides to make the best of every situation as he’s whisked away on a journey more exciting than he could ever have imagined. Performance times are Saturday, March 31 at 10:30am, 1:00pm and 3:30pm, and Sunday, April 8 at 11:00am.

IVY + BEAN: THE MUSICAL will close the 2017-2018 WST for Kids Season. Ivy and Bean could not be more different. They form an unlikely friendship when Bean decides to get revenge on her bossy, older sister. When these two are together the adventures are endless. In this lively musical Ivy and Bean discover that their differences are what make their friendship so exciting. Performance times are Saturday, June 2 at 10:30am, 1:00pm and 3:30pm, and Sunday, June 3 at 11:00am.

WST for Kids Season subscriptions are priced so that families can attend these enjoyable productions at an affordable cost. A subscription to the four-show series only costs $40 ($10 per show) in the Upper Mezzanine and $48 ($12 per show) in the Orchestra or Front Mezzanine. Subscriptions are on sale now. Special Holiday Attraction – Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol

Walnut Street Theatre is proud to present Philadelphia’s favorite holiday tradition, Charles Dickens’ A CHRISTMAS CAROL at 10:30am on December 12, 13, 14, 15, 19, 20, and 21; and 11am on November 25 and 26, and December 2, 3, 9, 10, 16, 17, and 23. This musical adaptation follows the heartwarming journey of the bitter, old Ebenezer Scrooge on one remarkable Christmas Eve. With the help of the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future, old Ebenezer discovers the spirit of Christmas. Great for kids in grades K-9, this hour-long adaptation uses original and traditional carols to highlight Dickens’ powerful story. Single Tickets are $15-$18 and will go on sale in mid-August.
