Tina Fey Tells “MY WALNUT STORY”

America’s Oldest Theatre creates new program

to connect artists and audiences

PHILADELPHIA, PA – May 21, 2020 -- The Walnut Street Theatre, America’s Oldest Theatre, announces My Walnut Story, a new platform where both artists and audiences can share their favorite Walnut stories online for everyone to enjoy. For its launch on May 7, Walnut artists were invited to submit videos sharing their Walnut Street Theatre related stories. The Walnut has collected scores of unique anecdotes and memories from both artists and theatregoers, ranging from onstage bloopers to their first memories attending the theatre.

You never know who has a story,” remarked Bernard Havard, Producing Artistic Director of the Walnut. A recent submission came from actor/writer/producer Tina Fey who added her own memories of family outings to the Walnut from her childhood home in Upper Darby, Pa. She remembers seeing one classic comedy that she would like to think “influenced my brain.” Click here Click here to learn which show and what memories made an influence on Tina Fey.

“The heart of theatre is storytelling,” stated Havard, “and the Walnut is excited to capture video stories from our artists and audiences. While this is a challenging time for the performing arts, it is also an opportunity to reflect on our memories together and share our stories until we can reopen our doors and welcome our artists and audiences back.”

The response to the program has been extraordinary. "To see some of my favorite actors telling stories about their Walnut Street Theatre experiences was absolutely delightful," exclaimed Bruce Burgess, a longtime subscriber. Audience members and alumni artists are invited to participate by uploading and sharing their own personal memories.

Selected stories will be posted under the banner of MY WALNUT STORY on the Walnut website and social media channels (#MyWalnutStory), with new stories added every Thursday. To view the stories and get simple directions on how to upload a video, visit www.walnutstreettheatre.org.
