The Walnut is one of only a few remaining "hemp houses" in the country. To this day it continues to operate the original grid, rope, pulley, and sandbag system that was in use two centuries ago. This photograph shows the fly loft where the key theatrical elements that are suspended above the stage, including pieces of scenery and lighting equipment, are manually controlled. In 2001, a multi-year major restoration of these historic stage systems was completed.
