1904

In October 1904 George M. Cohan brought his new musical, Little Johnny Jones, to the Walnut on its way to Broadway. 26-year-old Cohan was both the star and creator of this production, his first full-length musical. The breakthrough leading role was inspired by real-life Hall of Fame jockey Tod Sloan, and the show introduced two timeless musical numbers—"Give My Regards to Broadway" and "I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy."
