1912

Beginning her career performing in burlesque and vaudeville numbers, singer and comedian Sophie Tucker became one of the most popular entertainers in America during the early 20th century. In 1912 she had success in a supporting role at the Walnut in Louisiana Lou, where she reportedly brought down the house with a spoof of underworld dancing known as "The Puritan Prance."
