1961
The final show of the 1960-61 season was Neil Simon's
Come Blow Your Horn.
This was Simon's first full-length play and it was a huge hit with Philadelphia
audiences. The critics in New York were less responsive, but the play went on
to run for nearly two years on Broadway and launched Simon's playwriting career.
Throughout his life he has garnered 17 Tony nominations and won three; he won a
Pulitzer Prize for
Lost in Yonkers; he has written the screenplay for over
20 films for which he has received four Best Screenplay Oscar nominations;
he has received two honorary doctorates; he has a Broadway theatre named
in his honor; and he is an honorary member of the Walnut Street Theatre's
