1962

In March 1962 Eva Le Gallienne brought her successful tour of two dramas about Queen Elizabeth I to the Walnut. She played the title roles in Mary Stuart and Elizabeth the Queen (pictured here with Alfred Lunt) and was praised for her portrayal of both. Despite her somewhat scrutinized personal life as a homosexual, Le Gallienne is noted as a successful Broadway actress and producer of repertory theatre, an Emmy Award-winner, Oscar nominee, the recipient of a special Tony Award in 1964, and the National Medal of Arts in 1986.
