Shirley Booth starred in the tour of William Inge's Come Back Little Sheba in January 1951. Booth and her co-star Sidney Blackmer had both received 1950 Tony Awards for their performances as an alcoholic chiropractor and his slovenly wife. This play established William Inge as an important dramatist, and future projects included Bus Stop, The Dark at the Top of the Stairs, Academy Award-winning Splendor in the Grass, and Pulitzer Prize-winning Picnic.
