The Heiress was the first show of the 1948 fall season, opening in September.
The play, an adaptation of Henry James' novel
Washington Square by Augustus
and Ruth Goetz, starred Basil Rathbone (right) opposite Betty Linley.
Rathbone won a Tony Award for his performance. A film version starring
Olivia de Havilland and Montgomery Clift was released in 1949.
