1929

In 1929 the Walnut presented Maggie the Magnificent by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright George Kelly. A member of the prominent Philadelphia Kelly family, George was brother to John, an Olympic rowing champion, and uncle to future Princess Grace of Monoco. Kelly got his start in vaudeville, but went on to have success as a playwright with The Show-Off and Craig's Wife, among other plays.
