1926
Richard Rogers (left) was only 24 and Lorenz Hart was 31 when the team paired
up to create their first show.
Peggy Ann appeared at the Walnut for a
two-week pre-Broadway tryout in December 1926, and went on to run for almost
a year on Broadway. The duo followed up with another success at Walnut Street
Theatre with
A Connecticut Yankee in fall 1927. This production produced
two Rogers and Hart standards "Thou Swell" and "My Heart Stood Still" and ran
for 418 performances on Broadway, becoming one of their most successful musicals.
