In fall 1938 the Walnut was taken over by the Federal Theatre Project. That December they brought in a touring production of Prologue to Glory starring Stephen Courtleigh (right) and Ann Rutledge. The play, a reverent depiction of Abraham Lincoln's early years as a small-town lawyer in Illinois, was dismissed by critics.
